I love board games. It's engagement and a tool for sharpening thinking skills. Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Power Grid, Agricola and Acquire some of my favourite titles.
Every game, board game or otherwise, has an opening, mid and end game phases. The approach and playing style you adopt in each phase is markedly different. They are also dynamic in that it depends on how the game gets set up and what strategies others are likely to adopt in each phase. Getting the phase switches right separates the good players from the average ones.
Make this the credo of your productivity game. Visualize every period of a calendar cycle as opening game, mid game and end game phases. A day, week, fortnight, month, quarter, a year. Getting the phase switches right separates the good and the average.
